Sky Sport’s reporter Massimo Ugolini challenges the typical superstition of Napoli fans, saying the Partenopei could win their first Serie A title in over 30 years against Fiorentina in May, as it happened in 1987.
The Serie A leaders are enjoying a 16-point lead over second-placed Inter, who have a game in hand and will face Sampdoria at Marassi tonight.
The Partenopei have only won two Scudetti in their history, both in the Diego Armando Maradona era.
The first was in 1986-87 and the second in 1989-19990.
Napoli won their first Serie A title in 1987 after a 1-1 draw against Fiorentina on May 10, 1987. The same could happen this season as the Partenopei host the Tuscans at the Stadio Maradona in the first weekend of May.
Sky Sport’s Napoli reporter Massimo Ugolini highlights Luciano Spalletti’s men have a different mentality this season and the awareness of being a great team.
“The feeling that I have had in the few games is that fans no longer wonder whether they will win the title, but when they win it,” Ugolini said on Sunday night, after Napoli’s 3-0 win over Cremonese.
So, when could they put their hands on the Scudetto?
“Some look to Napoli-Fiorentina, which is also the fixture that saw Napoli win their first-ever Serie A title in 1987.”
