Milan had the chance to sign Randal Kolo Muani in the summer and held talks with his entourage before deciding to go for Divock Origi, reports detail.

The 24-year-old Frenchman shot to prominence this month after impressing in both the World Cup semi-finals and finals, scoring in the former and providing an assist in the latter. Kolo Muani announced himself on the world stage and attracted attention from clubs across Europe, giving him something to smile about despite his silver medal in Qatar.

As reported by Daniele Longo of Calciomercato.com, Milan duo Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara made a move for Kolo Muani in the summer, holding multiple talks with his representatives. The Frenchman had just left Nantes after his contract expired and was available on a free transfer.

After some consideration, the Rossoneri decided to turn their attention to Origi, who had just left Liverpool, and handed the Belgian a four-year contract.

Kolo Muani went on to join Eintracht Frankfurt, signing a five-year deal, and he’s immediately impressed in Germany, scoring eight goals and providing 11 assists in 23 appearances across all competitions.

6 thought on “When Milan picked Origi over Kolo Muani”
  1. Dumb move from milan. They make lots of dumb moves along with their good ones. Not signing Alvarez or Fernandez were the dumbest ones

  2. Lately there choice of players are a big concern, alot of senseless transfers, last summer transfer was a total failure, and the team is lacking behind as a result

  3. Always easy to insult the management now. Had we picked Kolo Muani and say, he didn’t perform as expected, many of these guys would be lambasting Maldini again for going for ‘unknown’ French kids instead of established names.

Many almost want to crucify MM too when he almost didn’t get to pick up CDK. Then we eventually get CDK, he underperformed, and the same guy went around again to blame MM for that.

    Really can’t satisfy these lot.

  4. There is no twist in this one, we don’t choose player because of they can offer , we choose taking into account costs, salary, agent fees and all that. If Botman cost 41M and Maldini still want him then you should know what type of team he wants to build, but with this type of ownership we will always miss out on good players.

  5. CDK was and still is a very smart move, I am absolutely certain that sooner or later the boy will deliver the goods. Now, as far as Origi is concerned… a disastrous move, honestly, even if the alternative was a stick!!!
