Guillermo Coppola, former agent of Diego Armando Maradona, remembered the amusing moment the Argentinian star met the former Price of Wales and now King Charles III.

The Napoli legend famously played a single match in a Tottenham shirt during his career, taking part in a tribute match to Spurs hero Osvaldo ‘Ossie’ Ardiles, and after that game he joined the reception celebrating the midfielder’s career at Buckingham Palace.

Coppola recounted this moment during a TV interview, remembering how Maradona was less than impressed with the then Prince of Wales.

“There was great emotion from all of us. At one point, however, Diego said to me: ‘Coppola, tell that big nose to take his hand off my shoulder’.

“I looked at him astonished, I didn’t know what to do. That big nose, as Diego had called him, was Prince Charles.”

Maradona never had a particularly rosy relationship with England throughout and after his career, famously scoring two goals against them in the 1986 World Cup – one of these was the infamous ‘Hand of God’ and the other was known as the ‘Goal of the Century’ after his incredible solo run.

Political issues off the pitch, like the Falklands War, likely contributed to the Napoli legend’s feelings. After England beat Colombia at the 2018 World Cup, Maradona suggested that there was “a monumental theft” regarding the penalty awarded to Harry Kane.
