Inter reportedly hope to have a new reserve team launched in time for the start of the 2025-26 season, but must first overcome a handful of ‘structural’ issues, according to club President Beppe Marotta.

Inter hope to follow Juventus, Atalanta and Milan with new U23 team

Three Serie A sides currently have B teams competing at the Serie C level, namely Juventus Next Gen, launched as Juventus U23 in 2018, as well as Atalanta U23, which launched ahead of the 2023-24 season, plus the most recent addition of Milan Futuro, which will play its first season in Serie C in 2024-25.

The U23 set-ups are intended to act as a final stepping-stone between the Primavera stage of the academy and the first-team squads.

Inter hope to become the fourth Italian club to launch a new U23 side, but they will have to wait until next summer to see if pieces fall into place.

Speaking on the topic of U23 teams, Inter President Marotta said: “The second team is a tool that the federal system has made available. I was at Juventus when the B team was launched.

“At Inter, we must be careful to ensure that the project can take off, but we have some structural shortcomings. We will work with the new ownership to fill them and then we hope to finally be able to launch, too.”
