With news that Fabrizio Corona has today testified in the investigation into Nicolò Fagioli’s betting, it is worth looking back at what he said about the Juventus midfielder four months ago, including allegations of gambling addiction and debts.

The 22-year-old seemingly handed himself in to the authorities for betting using illegal sites, but it is still not clear if he bet on his own matches or even specifically on football.

Gossip journalist Corona, who today announced that Sandro Tonali and Nicolò Zaniolo had also been betting against the rules, also confirmed he had been taken in for questioning as a witness in the investigation into Fagioli.

It was Corona who had reported on August 2 that Fagioli was not only betting, but “suffered from a serious gambling addiction.”

He went so far as to suggest that Fagioli “already owes over €1 million in gambling debts.”

Corona was known as the King of the Paparazzi and spent time in prison for among other things trying to extort football clubs and players with photographs and recordings of their private lives.

Among the players who took him to court were Alberto Gilardino, former Inter striker Adriano, ex-Milan full-back Francesco Coco, Juventus star David Trezeguet and Roma legend Francesco Totti.
