Aaron Ramsey gave Rangers hope in their Old Firm derby today but will he decide to stay in Scotland after this season?
The 31-year-old Welsh midfielder joined the Scottish club on a six-moan dry loan in the January transfer window, making a last minute move on deadline day. He had a slow start in Glasgow, only making two brief substitute appearances before slipping out of the squad. He started against Dundee before the international break and scored, proving his quality when given the chance.
Ramsey started against Celtic today and again found the back of the net, continuing to grow following his move away from Turin. A permanent stay with Rangers seems a little unlikely at this stage, however.
There is no option to buy attached to Ramsey’s loan deal, although Rangers do have a first priority in the case that the Welshman wants to stay there. The major problem is his salary – Juventus currently pay him €7m net a season, something he’s not willing to drop, and his contract expires with the Turin side in 2023.
This seems to suggest that Ramsey will decide to return to North Italy for one more year in order to see out his contract before choosing a club to retire at, which could ultimately prove to be Rangers.
