The appeal hearing for Juventus‘ point deduction and Fabio Paratici’s ban takes place on April 19: here’s what to expect.

The appeal hearing will take place in Rome and will be chaired by President Gabrielle Palmieri Sandulli along with sections Presidents Vito Branca, Attilio Zimatore, Massimo Zaccheo and Dante Alessio.

It will last between two and three hours and a verdict is expected by the end of the day, although the court could take longer.

Juventus were docked 15 points in January, while many of their former directors, as well as ex-President Andrea Agnelli and vice-president Pavel Nedved, received lengthy bans.

The Bianconeri had been cleared of allegations in the first capital gain trial that had taken place in 2022, but the outcome of the appeal trial changed as new proof collected by the Turin Prosecutor, and used in the criminal case as well as in the sporting trial by the FIGC, appeared to prove former Juventus directors had used ‘a system’ to take financial advantage, damaging other clubs.

This is why other Serie A and Serie B clubs who finalised some of the suspected deals with Juventus were not punished. Juventus have denied any wrongdoing and insist that documents used by the FIGC Court of Appeal in the second trial do not represent new proof and should, therefore, not lead to a 15-point deduction and bans for their former directors.

Football Italia explained in March the three possible scenarios in the appeal hearing that will take place tomorrow, April 19, 2023.

The CONI court can either reject the appeal, which would see Juventus’ point-deduction and bans for their former directors confirmed, or accept it by vacating FIGC’s decision. The third way would see CONI accept the appeal, sending the case back to the FIGC Court which would need to clarify its decision.

In this case, Juventus’ point-deduction and bans for their ex-directors would be temporarily put on hold, waiting for the updated motivations from the FIGC court.

Gazzetta reports on Tuesday that if this happens, then FIGC will need to clarify the reasons for penalties and bans and could even issue a new ruling with a reduced point penalty for Juventus. Until a few weeks ago, this appeared to be an impossible scenario. It still remains very unlikely but is one of the options on the table.
