Juventus have been eliminated in the Champions League group stage but can still play Europa League if they finish level on points with Maccabi Haifa with a better goal difference.

The Bianconeri were knocked out of the Champions League group for the first time since 2013, but still have a chance to play in Europa League.

Tonight, they host PSG at the Allianz Stadium in the last match of Group H, while Maccabi face Benfica at home.

Both Juventus and Maccabi have three points and have the same record and goals scored in head-to-head.

This means that Juventus will qualify for Europa League if they get a better result than Maccabi or end the group with a better goal difference which is currently -3 for the Serie A giants and -9 for the Israeli side.

“Now in the Europa League, we try to go there, it’s still Europe, we have to play a fair match, we face one of the strongest in Europe,” Juventus boss Massimiliano Allegri said at a press conference on Tuesday.

The Italian tactician had never been eliminated in the Champions League group phase. The last time the Bianconeri failed to reach the knock-out phase was in 2013-14 with Antonio Conte in charge.

If the Serie A giants qualify for Europa League, they will face one of the group runners-up in the play-offs.

  1. So basically Lord Allegri’s team should hope not to lose 0-6 or 0-7, so that they would have better GD that mighty Maccabi ?
Not sure if this is a realistic target right now for the prophets of Allegriball
