Giorgio Chiellini says ‘belief, balance and an early goal’ will be key to Juventus coming back against Atletico Madrid.

Juve lost 2-0 to Atleti in the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie on Wednesday and failed to take an away goal back with them.

Nonetheless, Chiellini told Tuttosport: “The comeback requires belief and balance from us.

“Some incidents hurt us and we’re disappointed, but the isn’t over yet. Did Atletico surprise me? No, we knew what the match would be like.

“It was more or less what we expected, with these incidents that make the difference against a team who make everyone play badly, not just us.

“In the second leg we’ll have to be proactive, play with great clarity and take advantage of the chances we get, while being careful from set-pieces because Atletico make the most of these situations.

“Will we need a super Ronaldo performance? Yes, but also super ones from Szczesny, De Sciglio, Bonucci, Chiellini…

“Everyone must have a great game, plus we have to score: when you score early, the game turns, like it did in four minutes in Madrid.

“We’ll have to be more careful and want to go through even more than we did before.”

The defender was then asked whether the Bianconeri would put up a picture of Diego Simeone’s gesture in their dressing room.

“We don’t care about Simeone,” asserted the 34-year-old.

“We have so many objectives inside of us that we don’t mind Simeone.”
