According to Il Corriere dello Sport, Simone Inzaghi told Inter players they must be proud of their performance against Real Madrid and that this is the right path to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16.

On Wednesday, the Nerazzurri suffered a 1-0 defeat against the La Liga giants in their opening game of Europe’s elite competition.

Inter failed to qualify for the Champions League Round of 16 during the last two seasons and haven’t played a knock-out game in the competition over the last ten years.

The Serie A champions failed to score against the Merengues despite 18 shots and Rodrygo gave Carlo Ancelotti’s side all three points with a late strike.

Il Corriere dello Sport reports what Inzaghi told his player after their defeat at the Stadio Meazza.

During their training session on Thursday, the coach explained to his players that they ‘must be proud’ of their performance and that this is the right approach to qualify for the next stage of the competition.

According to the report, Inzaghi wants his players to be aware of their positive performance but expects a different result in the upcoming games.

The Nerazzurri had picked up a 2-2 draw against Sampdoria before their defeat against Real Madrid.

The stats analysed by Inzaghi’s staff prove the team is fit, so the coach doesn’t want his players to lack determination or self-esteem.

Inter host Bologna at the Stadio Meazza tomorrow before travelling to the Artemio Franchi to face Fiorentina on Tuesday.
