Italy consolidated their status as favourites to get five Champions League places in next season’s new format, so how would this affect placement in Serie A?

The competition is expanding from the 2024-25 campaign, going from 32 teams to 36 and adopting a wider ‘league’ format rather than numerous four-side groups.

Of the four additional places, two will come from Federations who had the best collective performance in the previous UEFA season.

Italy and Germany are leading the way in that race, further improving their ranking when Lazio beat Bayern Munich in the Champions League Round of 16 first leg tie.

If Italy does get another spot, then the top five in Serie A would all enter the Champions League.

Sixth and seventh would go into the Europa League, with seventh place in the Conference League.

As things stand currently, the top four get Champions League places, with fifth and the Coppa Italia winner in the Europa League, sixth into the Conference League.
