Jose Mourinho refused to speak to the media after his Roma lost 2-1 to Milan and video from the touchline shows he was urged to stay quiet by Stefano Pioli.

The Special One was making his season debut on the bench, having missed the first two Serie A games because of a 10-day ban for insulting the referees last term.

It did not take him long to stir up controversy yet again, as within 10 minutes a penalty was award to Milan following the VAR review for a Rui Patricio foul on Ruben Loftus-Cheek.

Mourinho was fortunate to escape a sanction from the officials, as he stood for quite some time sarcastically applauding the referee and mouthing ‘shameful.’

At one point in the match, Mourinho was talking to the fourth official when Milan boss Pioli made a clear ‘silence’ motion with a finger to his lips.

Mou responded by waving a hand dismissively telling his colleague to go away and mind his own business.

It seems Mourinho took Pioli’s advice literally and called a press silence, refusing to speak to the media after the final whistle.

2 thought on “What happened when Mourinho and Pioli clashed during Roma-Milan”
  1. Mou was on top of the world and universally admired when he won the Treble with Inter. But his ego got the better of him, and he left for even greater glory. He’s never been the same or achieved as much since.

  2. @boh he’s always been like that even at Inter, blaming others even his players when he’s the one who shoulda been responsible for bad results.
