After the conclusion of the final EURO 2024 group stage matches on Wednesday night, the tournament’s knockout draw has been officially confirmed, with Italy due to play Switzerland at Berlin’s Olympiastadion on Saturday evening.

Georgia rose to a shock 2-0 victory over Portugal, largely thanks to Napoli’s Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, while Hakan Calhanoglu’s Türkiye recorded a fighting 2-1 win over 10-man Czechia on Wednesday night.

The layout of the knockout rounds means that Italy will avoid five of the tournament’s top six seeded teams on the potential route to the final. Germany, Spain, Portugal, France and Belgium have all ended up on the other side of the draw, as have Denmark, Georgia and Slovenia.

The teams on Italy’s side of the draw include round of 16 opponents Switzerland, as well as England, Slovakia, Austria, Türkiye, Romania and the Netherlands.

Italy will play Switzerland in Berlin on Saturday evening, kicking off at 17.00 BST. The winner of that fixture will go on to play the victorious side of England vs Slovakia on July 6.

The winner of that game will progress to the semi-final, where they will be met by one of Austria, Türkiye, Romania or the Netherlands.
