Former Juventus and Inter coach Antonio Conte has been linked with a move to Newcastle and his explanation for snubbing Tottenham Hotspur makes the Magpies fans dream of a possible arrival.

The former Italy CT is without a job after leaving Inter after winning the Scudetto last season and the coach is reportedly not able to take another job in Serie A this year.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reported the new Newcastle owners are so ambitious that they want to bring Antonio Conte to the club and are ready to make an offer, as Steve Bruce’s farewell seems imminent.

Conte explains Inter exit and Tottenham snub

Conte turned down a move to Spurs this summer and explained it was not because of the money, but that he was not convinced about the project.

“Generally, I like the challenges and I have accepter many of the during my career,” Conte told La Gazzetta dello Sport in June.

“I look for the projects instead and I’m ready to stay at home if something is not convincing me. It has to do with my vision, honesty and principles.

“Even the top clubs I coached were never the favourites when I arrived. However, if there’s something that doesn’t convince me, I prefer not to accept regardless of the money.”

As Newcastle are dreaming of the former Premier League winner’s arrival at Tyneside, rumours in Italian media have claimed Conte will turn down the job offer, at least in the middle of the 2021-22 season.

The former Nerazzurri coach will not take a job mid-season and will thus only be available next summer.
