Giacomo Raspadori reveals Leonardo Bonucci had given him the heads-up just before they combined for the winning Italy goal against England in the Nations League. ‘We have ambition.’

The Azzurri secured the 1-0 victory at San Siro this evening to leapfrog Germany into second place in the Nations League group, at the same time relegating England to Nations League B.

Napoli striker Raspadori got the only goal of the game after 68 minutes, controlling a Bonucci ball over the top with a magnificent first touch, cutting inside his defender and curling into the far corner.

“It was a good goal, the best thing is that Leo had called me a few minutes earlier to say he was going to make that sort of pass. I went well and was a good goal,” Raspadori told RAI Sport.

“It was a good performance against a strong team, we played very attacking, created chances and controlled the match as well as brought home the victory. We really needed a win like this against a top opponent in a stadium like this.”

Italy are not at the 2022 World Cup, but they could still win the Nations League group with Monday’s visit to leaders Hungary and go into the Final Four.

“We have the ambition to get back to being the team we were and bring Italy back to where the Nazionale belongs.”

  1. Might be a good league but that doesn’t mean a good national team. England will win as much as Italy in this world cup.
