Here’s what Massimiliano Allegri and Simone Inzaghi said during their post-match press conferences about Romelu Lukaku’s red card and the brawl that erupted at the end of JuventusInter.

Lukaku was shown a second yellow card in the final seconds of Inter’s Coppa Italia meeting with Juventus in Turin on Tuesday.

The 29-year-old had converted a spot kick and celebrated by silencing Juventus’ Curva. Lukaku had probably heard a few Juventus fans make monkey noises a few minutes earlier.

Tension continued after the final whistle with Juan Cuadrado and Samir Handanovic who were also sent off.

Allegri and Inzaghi spoke about the incidents during their post-match press conferences, attended by Football Italia.

“I don’t know what happened at the end of the game, because after the penalty kick, it was all over. It seemed strange to me that nothing had happened during the game,” said Allegri.

“There will be images and I hope this yellow card will be revoked, as it happened with [Ademola] Lookman, Lukaku always celebrates like this,” argued Inzaghi.

“The lad was misunderstood, he received a second yellow card and was sent off. The end wasn’t nice. Now I only think that I’ve lost Lukaku and Samir Handanovic for the second leg, two important players for us.”

The Nerazzurri coach confirmed that the club would appeal against Lukaku’s red card, hoping to have him available for the return leg at San Siro on April 26.

The Chelsea loanee has now scored six goals in 21 appearances across all competitions this season.
