Daniele De Rossi has praised Italy’s preparation for this summer’s World Cup, and believes that the Azzurri can do well in Brazil.

The national team have been put through their paces at Coverciano over the last few weeks, but are now in South America ahead of the tournament which starts next week.

The Roma midfielder though, is confident that under Coach Cesare Prandelli, the squad have done all they can to prepare.

“It’s been very hard and very scientific,” he told La Repubblica. “We’ve worked like crazy at Coverciano, but everything has been explained to us – what we’re doing and why we’re doing it.

“I’ve found it exciting, not boring. As an athlete I’m always curious as to why my body’s reacting like it does.

“We’ve tried to recreate the atmosphere we’ll find in Manaus. The humidity will be suffocating, but we know what to expect.”

The Giallorossi man then commented on the players’ use of social media during the tournament and the racism suffered by Mario Balotelli.

“We have talked with Prandelli, and he agrees that it’s right we have the freedom to express ourselves – within the limits of common sense!

“Personally, I don’t understand the usefulness of always being connected – to let everyone know what you’re thinking all of the time.

“Sometimes Mario does some stupid things, yes. But people only bring up the colour of his skin when he does something wrong.

“I bet if he scores the winning goal at the World Cup no one will even mention it. We are proud to have an Italian like him amongst us.”
