West Ham were about to sign Duvan Zapata in the final hours of last month’s transfer window before the deal with Atalanta collapsed.

ESPN report that a deal was quickly agreed between the two sides on transfer deadline day, with it only becoming a realistic idea a few hours before the closure. Paperwork was exchanged between the parties, with both West Ham and Zapata signing the final deal before it was sent to Atalanta.

The Bergamo side reportedly ‘went missing’ as the transfer deadline approached and they were nowhere to be seen as the window eventually closed, clearly not wanting to lose the 30-year-old Colombian forward, leaving West Ham empty handed.

The 30-year-old Zapata, who is contracted to Atalanta until 2023, has made 23 appearances across all competitions so far this season, for a total of 1681 minutes. In that time, he’s scored 12 goals and provided seven assists, but he’s now currently stuck on the sidelines with an adductor injury.
