The meteorological conditions in Venice are wreaking havoc on the Serie A match between Venezia and Como.

It kicked off at the Stadio Penzo at 17.00 GMT.

You can follow all the build-up and action as it happens from today’s four Serie A matches on the Liveblog.

This is a relegation dogfight with a potentially huge effect on the table and the battle to remain in the top flight.

Both teams were hoping to play in very different circumstances, because heavy rain, cold and above all gale-force winds are making it extremely difficult to get a football match going.

It is made even worse by the fact the Stadio Penzo can only be reached by boat, which is not an easy experience when the winds are going at 65-70km/h.

Venezia-Como at risk

Worryingly, a nearby match in Chioggia – in the province of Venice – in Serie C has been suspended due to the winds moving the ball and making it impossible to play.

The weather report suggests the situation is set to deteriorate further as the evening goes on, with winds expected to reach 80km/h.

Sky Sport Italia had to remove several of their television cameras from high spots around the area, for fear they would be blown away.
