Timothy Weah reveals he was going to ‘do whatever it took’ to join Juventus and can already envision his debut goal for the club. ‘It is definitely gonna be a ball over the top from Manuel Locatelli.’

The son of former Milan legend George Weah, who is now the President of Liberia, he grew up in the public eye and hearing about the glory days of Italian football.

It all contributed to bringing him to Turin this summer from Lille at a cost of €11.3m plus bonuses.

“It’s a blessing to play for such a beautiful club,” Weah told fans on a live Twitch interview.

“A few months before getting the call from Juve I was playing football on my video game console, and my player was on Juventus. Then when I was told that Juve were coming to watch me and I played really well – it was something in the air that day. Once they were interested I knew I was gonna do whatever it took to get here.”

Weah plays his international football for the USA and is therefore very glad to have Weston McKennie helping him out in pre-season training, especially considering the former Leeds midfielder wasn’t initially included in the squad for this trip.

“If I have to pick a favourite teammate already it’s Weston because I’ve known him for years and we have super close relationship, but also Moise and Federico Gatti. I like Fede, he’s very genuine and I play right beside him. He’s always willing to help me and when you move to a new club it’s always a beautiful thing to have that in a teammate.”

There is one new teammate that Weah is creating a particular bond with on the field already and that is Italy international Locatelli.

“My first Juve goal is definitely gonna be from a ball over the top from Loca. He’s always pinging me in behind so I already know that I’m gonna make that run and he’s gonna play me. He just has that Italian class on the ball.”
