Timothy Weah reveals his father George has always been ‘crazy about Juventus and that made the choice easy’ for him, while revealing he is likely to be used as a wing-back.

The United States international is the son of Milan legend George Weah and already showed he learned a phrase famously used by his father when first signing for the Rossoneri.

However, that seems to be the extent of his Italian for now, so he gave his first interview to the official club website in English.

“I’m excited, honoured, blessed, it’s a childhood dream. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world, if not the, so I’m super proud to be Bianconeri,” said Weah.

What attracted him to the proposal from Juventus?

“Just everything about the club, the history, the players, the coaching staff and the belief that everyone had in me. I feel at home here. The fans, as you saw they came and supported me at the medical. I’m just happy and excited to get started.”

Although Weah Senior spent five years at Milan and is still remembered fondly by their supporters, it turns out he was always harbouring a secret soft spot for the Old Lady.

“The history of my family and my dad playing for Milan, that in itself is huge, and now his son gets the opportunity to be in Serie A and play for one of the greatest clubs. It’s wonderful.

“It’s one of his favourite clubs, he supports Juventus, he’s crazy about them, so it really made the choice easy for me.”

Timothy Weah is only 23 years old, but has already played numerous different roles in his career, including as a right-back, a left-back and an attacking right side of a trident.

“I am a really intense player, I love to make runs, cross and deliver, so with the teammates that I have, hopefully I can benefit from that, help those guys score goals and play beautiful football.

“Personally, I’m a workhorse, I work for the team and hopefully the fans will appreciate my hard work.”

He was asked if he has a role that he particularly favours and hinted this is where Max Allegri sees him at Juventus.

“I definitely have a preferred position, it would have to be wing-back, and that’s probably where I’ll play here. I’m super excited. It’s a new position for me, but it’s something that I like. Having experience of playing striker on the wing, I think that benefits me a lot. Wherever the coach needs me and the team needs help, I am happy.

“I hope to achieve great things. We have a beautiful team, beautiful club, coaching staff the people who work behind the scenes. We just have to put in the work and hopefully achieve great things.”

There was one final message for the Bianconeri supporters after his transfer for €10.3m from Lille plus €2.1m in bonuses.

“Thank you to the fans for loving me the way you guys supported me since day one. When the news came out, you guys were all over it. I am going to give my heart for this club. I love you guys and will see you soon.”
