Serie A clubs and players have taken to social media to pay tribute to Davide Astori, four years after his death.

The former Italy international died from cardiac arrest on the morning of Fiorentina’s Serie A match against Udinese. La Viola were coached by Stefano Pioli at that time and the Tuscans have been remembering their ex-captain in each one of their home games since.

Astori’s name is always announced in the starting XI and fans applaud at minute 13, which was his jersey No.

Italy and Juventus captain Giorgio Chiellini was among the first ones to pay tribute to Astori this morning. The veteran defender had already dedicated the Azzurri’s victory at the Euros to the ex Cagliari and Roma centre-back over the summer.

“Hello Davide, we miss you,” the 37-year-old wrote on Instagram, posting a picture of Astori smiling.

Lega Serie A also paid tribute to the former Azzurri defender and so did his ex clubs Fiorentina, Cagliari and Roma.
