On this day 22 years ago, Italy booked their spot in the Euro 2000 final after beating hosts Netherlands in the semi-finals, with Francesco Totti and Francesco Toldo coming out the heroes.

It was a tough afternoon at the Amsterdam Arena for the Azzurri but goalkeeper Toldo proved himself a hero, saving two penalties in regular time to ensure Italy had a chance at reaching the final. His strong performance continued in the shoot-out, where he saved two of the four Dutch attempts.

Totti also played a key role in the shoot-out, scoring a panenka to give the Azzurri a 3-0 lead.
