The FIGC celebrated their 125th birthday today with a video commemorating their successes across history and their values.
The Italian Football Federation was set up on March 26 1898 and has overseen the sport in the country since it’s foundation, setting up over 20 national teams across gender, age group and format.
The last 125 years have seen many highs and lows for the Azzurri, ranging from their four World Cups and two European Championships to their recent failures to qualify for the biggest stage in football.
FIGC president Gabriele Gravina discussed what football means to Italy on the occasion of their birthday.
“The history of the FIGC is intertwined, sometimes even overlapping, with that of the country. Football is a cultural, social and economic phenomenon, as well as a sporting one, representing national identity and its evolution over the decades.
“Today we are not only celebrating the Federation’s birthday, but that of all those who love football and who contribute to making it more modern, inclusive and spectacular every day.”
