Inter‘s ultras have unveiled a banner close to the Stadio Meazza to support their captain Samir Handanovic who has been criticised after a 2-2 draw against Atalanta.

The former Slovenia international was blamed for Rafael Toloi’s goal as he failed to palm a shot wide, allowing the Italy international to put the ball inside an empty net.

He was luckier in the second half when a Roberto Piccoli shot squirmed under his arm to give Atalanta the lead. Handanovic was rescued by his own earlier error because the chance was created when the goalkeeper clumsily kicked it back from the line, but VAR showed the ball had crossed over already.

Many Inter fans and Italian media have harshly criticised the 37-year-old, but a group of Inter ultras showed their solidarity with the Nerazzurri veteran by unveiling a banner just outside the Giuseppe Meazza.

“Head high and chest out Samir, the [Curva] Nor is with you.”

Handanovic joined Inter from Udinese in 2012. He has 396 appearances with the Serie A giants.
