Watch Insigne’s Toronto FC press conference as MLS career begins

You can watch live coverage of Lorenzo Insigne’s presentation press conference at Toronto FC, as the Napoli and Italy star begins a new life in MLS.

The 31-year-old left his hometown club for a new experience in Canada after the Partenopei would only offer a new contract with a massive pay cut.

“A new adventure begins, both for me and my family. It’s the first time we’ve moved away from Naples. The President spoke highly of his splendid city, I am very proud to be here and can’t wait to meet the coach, my teammates and the fans at the stadium.

“Knowing me, I am tense, because I can’t wait to get on the field and do my bit for the team. I am quite anxious, as it’s the first time I’ve had a press conference like this!

“We’ve only been here a few days, but the city looks lovely, the people, there’s a high quality of life and we really like it.

“I am nervous, as I’ve never been outside of Naples really. It was tough leaving Napoli, but unfortunately that is life. I made above all a lifestyle choice for my children and hope we can grow together as a family.”

Insigne was asked whether his move was mainly financial or was it a challenge?

“I met the President, he impressed me both as a person and with the history of the club. I know some think I came here looking at the economic aspect, but if I came here, it is above all for the good of my family, my wife and children.

“The sporting project the President outlined is an important challenge for me to help them reach what is effectively the Champions League for them.

“I played 10 years at Napoli, for Italy, I won the Euros, so I am accustomed to pressure. I prefer to talk on the pitch, as everyone can talk off it, but you have to prove yourself on the field.”

He played 433 competitive matches for Napoli, scoring 121 goals and providing 95 assists.

Lorenzo Il Magnifico also has 10 goals in 54 caps for Italy and was part of the squad that won EURO 2020 last summer.
