Milan are currently in training preparing for Tuesday night’s Champions League Group Stage opener against Newcastle, and the Rossoneri squad were surprised with a visit from the recently retired Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 41-year-old, who netted 76 goals in Serie A during his various stints with the Rossoneri, was spotted arriving at the Milanello car park on Monday morning and has since been seen observing the squad’s training session from the touchline.

Though a hugely important and influential figure for Milan over the last few seasons, Ibrahimovic is not currently part of Stefano Pioli’s official backroom staff.

The Swede was, however, spotted in conversation with Pioli and assistant Giacomo Murelli as the first team warmed up.

His encouragement and motivation ahead of Tuesday’s visit from Sandro Tonali and his Newcastle teammate will likely be a much-welcomed boost following Saturday’s 5-1 loss to rivals Inter in the league.

The Rossoneri get their Champions League campaign underway against the Magpies at San Siro at 17.45 UK time on Tuesday night.
