Gianluigi Donnarumma reflected on his first season with Paris Saint-Germain, touching on the difficulty of Ligue 1 and his relationship with Keylor Navas.

The 23-year-old Italian shot stopper joined the French giants last summer on a free transfer, signing a five-year deal after his contract expired with Milan. Donnarumma did not have a simple start to life in Paris, being forced to share his starting spot with veteran shot stopper Navas, which led to him making only 16 Ligue 1 appearances this campaign.

Speaking to PSG’s media department, Donnarumma first looked back on the Ligue 1 season and the elimination from the Champions League.

“It’s my first league title, I’m happy to have won it in Paris. It is the tenth in the club’s history, we all wanted it and it was an important season.

“It was a good year, minus difficult moments like the elimination in the Champions League which was hard to digest, but we had to move on.

“The season remains positive, now we’ll reset and look ahead. From the outside they may say that winning Ligue 1 is easy, but it’s not, us who go out there know how much 100% is needed every time.”

He touched on how it feels to wear the PSG shirt.

“Playing at the Parc des Princes is special, with our fans always supporting us. The fans are special, we know they expected a bit more this year, as we did. I’m 23 years old, I’m young and I haven’t done anything yet. I’m trying to improve every day.”

Finally, Donnarumma discussed his relationship with Navas and the forced rotation.

“We’re good friends, he was the one who took us to the bottom. The rotation is hard to bear, but we have mutual esteem and we have been good together. Receiving the best goalkeeper award is nice, I hope to be there for many more years, but I put team awards first.”
