Monza were held to a tiring 1-1 draw by Cremonese after a wasteful match filled to the brim with mistakes from both sides.

The Biancorossi look comfortable in their debut season in Serie A and are at little risk of relegation, allowing them to focus on their football and enjoy the end of their first season ever in the Italian topflight.

It’s been a much more difficult season for Cremonese, who were also promoted from Serie B last season. The Grigiorosso have only won a single league game this season, looking set to head straight back down, but strangely they’ve found more success in the Coppa Italia as they prepare for a semi-final tie with Fiorentina.

Monza were mostly in control in their afternoon clash at the Stadio Brianteo, playing almost 300 pass more than Cremonese, who are desperately searching for points as they dream of escaping the relegation zone, but this dominance did not translate to goals.

It was the away side who took the lead, going ahead after 62 minutes thanks to a well-placed shot by Daniel Ciofani, putting Cremonese 1-0 up.

It didn’t take Monza long to respond, however, and Carlos Augusto found an equaliser just seven minutes later with a drilled shot which flew past Marco Carnesecchi, drawing the home side level.

Mistakes were aplenty for both sides are the final 20 minutes ticked by, with tiredness and a drop in focus starting to emerge on the pitch of the Stadio Brianteo.

Neither side could find their second, leaving Monza and Cremonese to share a point apiece in Lombardy after a draining 95-minute outing.
