Wanda Nara cut through the gossip to tell her story of meeting Mauro Icardi, that Napoli movie offer and “negotiating a contract while seven months pregnant.”

So much has been written and said about this pair, as they met while she was still married to Icardi’s friend and Sampdoria teammate Maxi Lopez, but insists romance only bloomed after her divorce.

“I met Mauro via Maxi Lopez when he was 18 years old,” she told La Gazzetta dello Sport magazine Fuorigioco.

“After the divorce, I had gone back to live in Argentina and already had the kids registered for the new school year. I had to come back to Milan to finalise some paperwork and he offered to lend me his car, leaving me the keys to his house too.

“He asked if I wanted to have dinner with him, but the fridge was empty, as is typical for a young single man who always eats out. I knocked up some pasta and the rest just happened spontaneously.

“Mauro could’ve done anything he wanted in life, but he showed the maturity of a much older man. He kept his promises. Very quickly I realised he cared for my kids too and that meant everything.”

The three children she had with Maxi Lopez now live in Milan with Icardi and his two kids from the marriage with Wanda.

“No more kids, my work is done! He always wanted a girl, as he feared the male son of a football player would feel pressured into following in his footsteps.

“Mauro has always treated them as his own children. Valentino has remarkable discipline, watches what he eats, only drinks water rather than soda and makes me film his games so he can watch back his mistakes and correct them. Benedicto is the most naturally talented, though.”

Wanda isn’t just the wife of a famous player, she is also a star in her own right in Argentina and acts as Icardi’s agent.

“There’s no point denying it, my role has caused a few problems. I am a woman and the wife of my client, but he knows I always took care of business for me and my sister Zaira, who is a model and TV presenter in Argentina.

“At the same time, he gave me unconditional trust and that legitimised my role in the eyes of others. Admittedly, it was not easy to negotiate a contract renewal when seven months pregnant!”

There were reports last year that Napoli President Aurelio De Laurentiis – a movie producer – had offered Wanda a role in a film as part of the proposal to sign Icardi.

“It’s true he offered me a part in a film, because he knows I already acted in Argentina and people know me. However, despite what was written, it had nothing to do with Mauro moving to Napoli.

“People don’t realise Mauro has the Nerazzurri colours under his skin. He didn’t cry when his daughters were born, but he cried for Inter.”
