Icardi finally returned to training this week after discussions with lawyer Paolo Nicoletti, who was brought in as an intermediary, and was expected to be in the squad for tonight’s game with Lazio.

Instead, Spalletti left him out and tonight confirmed in an extraordinary Sky Sport Italia rant that Icardi was left out not for his fitness, but his behaviour.

He specifically noted it was “humiliating that you need to negotiate with a player to pull on the shirt” and blew the lid off the attempted diplomacy since Icardi was stripped of the captaincy on February 13 and felt knee pain the very same day.

“Mauro is ready and it’s all down to the decision of the Coach,” Wanda said on her TV show Tiki Taka.

She was asked if Mauro would go back and change some of the choices he had made.

“It depends on how you look at the situation. Mauro hasn’t spoken yet, we haven’t heard his version. All Mauro is waiting for is to play.

“He had a television camera right in his face throughout the game. He was willing the team on and obviously cares a lot for his teammates, but he doesn’t need to say it out loud.

“A player like Mauro is accustomed to hearing a lot of chatter, but he focuses on playing, scoring goals and helping Inter.”
