New Udinese signing Walace is “grateful for this opportunity, as I was afraid the transfer” from Hannover 96 would fall through.

Negotiations dragged on for several weeks and seemed to be on the verge of collapse, but the defender finally made the move for €6m.

“I was afraid the transfer wouldn’t happen, as I had a difficult period in Germany, but I felt how much Udinese wanted me and I thank the club for their perseverance,” said the Brazilian in his Press conference.

“I was afraid the transfer wouldn’t happen, as I had a difficult period in Germany, but I felt how much Udinese wanted me and I thank the club for their perseverance,” said the Brazilian in his Press conference.

“I hope to repay them for that trust and am grateful for this opportunity to play in Serie A. My main strength is man-marking, pressing players on the ball, but I can go forward too.

“My fitness levels are currently about 80 per cent, as I had a slight lesion to the back of the thigh that kept me out for 10 days or so.

“I hope to improve as a player in Italy, work on concentration and taking fewer touches, as the most important thing is to bring security to the back line.

“I certainly want to get back to playing for Brazil, but I can only achieve that by doing well for Udinese.”
