“It’s wonderfully exciting for me to be facing my former club. I hold great memories of my time in Liguria and respect them, but today I am an Inter player and happy to be wearing this jersey,” the Croatia international told Inter TV.

“The most difficult thing in football is to confirm your status game after game. I think we are a very strong squad and capable of playing some very good football.

“It’s going to be a tough game today, as Ivan Juric is doing a fine job on the Genoa bench and we need to be very concentrated. Genoa try to press high, I saw their performance against Milan and they were unlucky to lose.”

Milan snatched a stoppage-time winner through Alessio Romagnoli in Wednesday’s rescheduled Week 1 fixture.
