Former Roma player and Coach Rudi Voller believes Juventus’ capture of Cristiano Ronaldo was “the only big coup” for Serie A this summer.

With the likes of Gonzalo Higuain, Radja Nainggolan, Javier Pastore and Stefan de Vrij either arriving in Italy or moving between clubs, many have hailed one of the most exciting transfer windows in recent years.

However, the former Germany boss sees only one really eye-catching deal this summer.

However, the former Germany boss sees only one really eye-catching deal this summer.

“The transfer of Ronaldo was the only big coup for Serie A this summer,” Voller said in a video posted by Gazzetta dello Sport.

“The other big teams made good signings, but they’d already done so in previous years. Some teams had a smart transfer campaign, others less so, but it’s all part of the game.

“Ronaldo is the real coup and that was recognised by Juventus. He’s a global star like [Lionel] Messi, they’ve been the two best forwards in world football in the past few years.

“It’s a bonus for Turin, for Juventus and for Serie A, as the other teams will be happy to face Ronaldo.”
