Dusan Vlahovic insists this is ‘just the start’ for Juventus after beating Sassuolo 3-0 and he is relishing the opportunity to play alongside Angel Di Maria and Filip Kostic.

The Serbia international had not scored in any of the pre-season friendlies, raising eyebrows and concerns around his form going into the campaign.

However, he soon silenced the doubters with a brace in the 3-0 Serie A victory over Sassuolo, earning and converting a penalty, then scoring after a Kaan Ayhan defensive error.

“I worked all summer, I am not yet at 100 per cent because I had an issue to deal with that was not easy to get over, this is the second 90-minute game I’ve played since the end of last season,” Vlahovic told DAZN.

“I am working to get back to 100 per cent, so I can be at the disposal of the team and help achieve more victories.”

The former Fiorentina striker also assured there was no malice or controversy in the goal celebration, where he pointed at his eyes.

“It was for a friend of mine who helped so much and stays with me. I also dedicated the goals to my family, who came to watch the game.”

The partnership with new signing Di Maria already seems to be working well after his arrival from PSG as a free agent.

“It’s an incredible sensation to play with Di Maria, it’s so pleasing to work with such champions and I thank him for the assist. He had an extraordinary game.”

Filip Kostic came off the bench in the closing stages for his debut, just days after completing the transfer from Eintracht Frankfurt.

“We play together for Serbia, so it’s nice to have him here. We’re creating a really nice atmosphere in the squad. This is just the start, we won the first game, but we need to keep going with calm and confidence.

“The team comes first and foremost. If Juventus were to win the Scudetto and I was not the Capocannoniere, I certainly wouldn’t complain!”

  1. Early doors but could Allegri be playing attacking football? Lets see the team progress when we come up against title rivals. But a great start for confidence. Bravo Max and the team.

  2. First 20 min. could have been last year all over again – we are playing SLOW from the back. No movement or control ..luckily Sas. didn’t find the net. After the first goals we stand way too deep and let Sas. control the game.
Nice to see the youngsters – espec. Rovella who seems on top! DiMaria is really amazing – can’t wait to have Chiesa on the other side.

  3. A better side would have punished the 7/9 record breakers. The flaws are still there and all it takes is a quality side to bring them back down to reality. Credit to phd Max for keeping his calma and not tossing the famed blazer to the ground.
