Dusan Vlahovic has refused to sign a new Fiorentina contract, sparking links with Juventus, Tottenham and Manchester City, but insists first he wants to take the Viola ‘back into Europe.’
The Serbia international has been unstoppable in 2021 and there are reports he could be on the move in January, as he rejected the latest contract extension proposal.
His current deal runs to June 2023 and Vlahovic remains confident he will be at the Stadio Artemio Franchi for the rest of the season.
“We are all working hard and want to get back into Europe, because Fiorentina haven’t played in Europe for many years and it’d be a great success for the club,” he told Telegraph.rs in Serbia.
“I think this group of players and staff deserves it and we’ll do our best to achieve some of the objectives we have set for ourselves.
“I have reached a level in football where every little detail counts, so I am very careful with my nutrition and training routine.”
Fiorentina beat leaders Milan 4-3 at the weekend, ending the Rossoneri’s unbeaten Serie A record, and Vlahovic squared off against his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
“The game against Milan was like a dream. We felt euphoric, but then quickly started to focus on the next match with Empoli.
“Every meeting with Milan is special for me, because everyone knows how I feel about Ibrahimovic. I do not feel that I am his successor, as I have a very long way to go before reaching his level. Just the fact he is still playing at the top level at the age of 40 days it all about his hunger and character.”
Vlahovic was asked if he approached Ibrahimovic after the 4-3 Fiorentina victory at the Stadio Franchi.
“No, I know what it’s like to lose and I didn’t want to bother anyone in the Milan squad.”
