Dusan Vlahovic followed Federico Chiesa and Manuel Locatelli in snubbing Arsenal, joining Juventus despite a better offer from the Gunners.

The 21-year-old is on the verge of completing a €75m move to the Allianz Stadium. He has already agreed personal terms with the Old Lady and his agent will be in Turin today to finalise the deal.

However, Vlahovic tested positive for COVID last week, so he hasn’t yet been given the green light to travel to Turin to undergo his medicals.

Announcement, medical and last meeting: latest on Vlahovic to Juventus

The Serbia international snubbed a move to Arsenal and refused to listen to offers from Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United, becoming the third Juventus player to reject a move to the Emirates Stadium before joining Juventus.

The Gunners tried to sign both Chiesa and Locatelli in the last year and a half but failed to convince both players to move to London.

Arsenal were ready to sign them on permanent deals, while Juventus acquired the Italy internationals on loan with an obligation to buy, making the most of Chiesa and Locatelli’s decision to sign for them.

Chiesa moved to Turin from Fiorentina in 2020 on an initial €10m loan with an obligation to buy for €40m and a further €10m in add-ons.

Locatelli arrived in Turin via Sassuolo one year later in a two-season loan deal with an obligation to buy for €25m plus €12.5m add-ons. Arsenal had offered €40m to sign him permanently.

The formula for Vlahovic’s transfer is still unclear, but Juventus will likely invest a small sum in January, paying the remaining of his transfer fee over the next few years.

Once again, Arsenal were ready to sign the player permanently, paying in a few instalments, but Vlahovic only wanted Juventus.

The Old Lady’s prestige and the possibility to play Champions League football made the difference, not to mention that both Locatelli and Vlahovic are Juventus fans.

  1. Soooo, what is the reason? This article only outlines the deals, and what Arsenal offered, but no reasons for why they chose Juve over Arsenal. A quick guess would be Champions League football and prestige.

  2. @JP – Precisely my thoughts. What were the reasons??? Btw, Juve is the worst club to join if those players want to win UCL. They will take part in it alright, but they will not win it!!!

  3. @JP. Agree. Utterly pointless article with clickbait. Also, I suspect Arsenal have as much chance of playing CL football next season as Juventus have,

  4. @MZ

You can keep saying they can’t win UCL with Juve until they do 😉
It’s just the matter of believing

  5. The reason is simple, they preffer italian football and everyone knows that italy is football nation and england only cricket, another reason is that they are Juventinis and their hearts belongs for this team, not every player is just playing for money, is some who loves football!!!

  6. The reasons for Locatelli and Vlahovic is they are Juve fans. Would you not want to play CL football for the club you support? Arsenal don’t offer the chance of regular CL football, Juve do. Juventus were in CL final in 14/15 and 16/17, they are aiming to win the CL. Arsenal’s aim is to just qualify for it. Hope this answers your questions.

  7. And once again you failed to give us the reason that your headline promised. Unless you believe that the “reason” these 3 players joined Juve is because 2 of the 3 were Juve fans. That is not the reason. And what about Chiesa, if he wasn’t a fan?

  8. Loca vla chiesa are afraid to get wet actually, they will soon have there faces on d mud, football in England is more competitive, they just want to settled for a retirement league, see wat Chelsea did to juve, it shows how the intensity of how the league sucks, a mid table English team can compete for Seria A n wins it but I still don’t get why playing for juve when they r better teams in inter n AC milan who r ucl elite than old ladies

  9. Yeah because it is 2022 and not 2002 so they will of course reject Arsenal as they don’t play in the CL but if was from Real Madrid. I am sure Atleast Chiesa would not have joined nor do themothers

  10. Thanks for your in-depth analysis. When is this going to be a full blown EPL news site? More than half of the articles are about Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, and Liverpool right now anyway.

  11. As an Arsenal fan and fan of Serie A since those glorious channel 4 days and the arrival of Gazza, I would have loved to see this trio join us, all 3 very much on my personal Radar and would have been my picks to join- kudo to Edu and the kroenkes for pursuing these huge talents. It’s a shame we couldn’t tempt them, I suspected Vlahovic was hanging out for Juve after the experience of Locatelli, the Old Lady still has great pulling power. Obviously the Fiorentina Juve rivalry counts for little who remembers Baggio and his scarf?

  12. Beside being fans of Juve – salaries/Taxes might be lower in Italy – 2 are Italians and the other is a youngster who is in Italy already! Why change league and environment when you can earn as much if not more and be on the historically good side in Italy and one of the top in Europe?
Taking part in CL and possibility of several cup and league titles does not hurt as well!

  13. The simple reason is this. Revenge for Nicklas Bendtner deal. Any quality player arsenal want, and we hear about it, they will loose it.
