The adoptive father of former Milan youth player Seid Visin insists the supposed suicide note was several years old. ‘He did not die because he felt discriminated against.’

The 20-year-old killed himself two days ago and his funeral was held this morning in Nocera Inferiore.

A letter written by Seid Visin outlining the racist abuse he experienced continually was released on Facebook by the young man’s psychotherapist.

“That was an old letter from 2019,” Walter Visin told the Repubblica newspaper and news agency ANSA.

“My son did not die because he felt discriminated against and I ask anyone to stop supporting this lie. As for why he did it, there are some questions that do not have an answer, as with any youngster who expresses his unhappiness.

“Everyone here loved my son and he was the same as ever. This morning we held the funeral and the church was packed with families and young people. That letter was just a moment of exasperation at the climate he felt in Italy at that time, but it had nothing to do with his suicide.”

Born in Ethiopia and adopted by the Visin family at the age of 7, Seid had spent time in the Milan youth academy, but walked away from a promising career because he felt the aggressive nature of professional football was not for him.

He also felt homesick, but even a move to Benevento on loan did not calm his anxiety.
