The Coach was given the boot with one year left to run on his contract after repeatedly refusing to commit for next season, saying he had doubts over the project.
“The Board of Directors meeting went well,” Panerai told Sky Sport Italia.

“Am I sorry for Montella? No. When someone insults his employer, speaks in public about the budget and projects he doesn’t believe in, then it’s only right that it should end this way.
“These are matters that have to be discussed within the club. So no, I am not sorry.”
Paulo Sousa is the hot favourite to take over and there are reports this evening that FC Basel have agreed to release him from his contract.
“We have numerous possibilities,” added Panerai.
