There are reports Andre Villas Boas is flying into Rome tomorrow for a meeting with Lazio, as he becomes the favourite for the job.

According to both Il Tempo newspaper and LaLazioSiamoNoi, Villas Boas has booked a flight to Rome for tomorrow morning and planned an encounter with Lazio President Claudio Lotito.

Simone Inzaghi had agreed to extend his contract to June 2024, but changed his mind the next day when Inter offered to double his salary.

His contract was set to expire on June 30, so he was a free agent and able to walk away, leaving the Aquile stranded.

There have been several candidates mentioned, including Maurizio Sarri, Sinisa Mihajlovic and Dejan Stankovic.

The previous clubs Villas Boas worked with include FC Porto, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur, Zenit St Petersburg and most recently Olympique Marseille.

He resigned from the Ligue 1 club in February, complaining that they had signed Olivier Ntcham against his wishes.

Villas Boas would be in his first Serie A experience, but it’d also be an intriguing response to Roma, who have a very Portuguese approach for next season with Jose Mourinho and director of sport Tiago Pinto.
