Villar has played 10 games in the Europa League this term and the 23-year-old said La Lupa are desperate to continue ‘a good path’.

“I have the impression that this is not considered enough,” Villar told La Gazzetta dello Sport. “We are in the quarter-finals of the Europa League and we have a great desire to knock out Ajax to continue a good path that is already over for the other Italian clubs.”

The Spain U21 international said he used to watch former Barcelona star Andres Iniesta a lot but was also a fan of Sergio Busquets.

Villar said the ‘idea’ is to become a hybrid of the two and adapt to the ‘team’s needs’ during the games.

“True, but I also liked Busquets a lot,” he said. “He’s one of the best in history in that position as a regista.

“The idea is to mix the two, depending on the team’s needs. I have always said I’m very happy at Roma and in Rome.

“If the club is thinking about renewing my contract, it means that I’m doing well, showing that I can be an important asset right now and in the future.

“I want to stay at Roma for a long time.”
