Roma midfielder Gonzalo Villar announced he has tested negative for COVID-19 and returns to Trigoria ahead of the match against Inter.

The midfielder has yet to play in Serie A this term, but has missed the last three league games due to coronavirus.

The midfielder has played four games in the UEFA Europa Conference League but missed the last match in the competition against Zorya Luhansk due to the virus.

The 22-year-old revealed on Instagram that he has now recovered and will return to train with the rest of his teammates at Trigoria, where the squad prepare for the big game against Jose Mourinho’s former club.

“Negative swab, finally heading to Trigoria with the team,” Villar wrote on Instagram. “Goodbye COVID, tomorrow Roma vs. Inter.”

Roma are fifth in Serie A after 15 league games and are currently nine points behind Inter at third, hoping to close some of the gap when Simone Inzaghi’s men arrive at the Olimpico on Saturday.

It will be a special moment for Mourinho, who faces his former side for the first time as a Roma coach and Marco Materazzi asked for ‘no funny business’ from the Portuguese tactician.
