Gonzalo Villar failed to mention José Mourinho in the message written for Roma fans after his move to Getafe: ‘I’ve never thought it could end like this.’

Villar was one of Roma’s regular starters under Paulo Fonseca last term, but fell down in José Mourinho’s pecking order this season playing just five games across all competitions and failing to play one single minute in Serie A.

The 23-year-old has returned to Spain, joining Getafe on a dry loan deal until the end of the season.

“It’s time to close these two amazing years at Roma,” the Spanish midfielder wrote on Instagram.

“I must be honest, I’ve never thought it could end like this, but I only have good and magic memories with you.

“I don’t know if I’ll ever play with this shirt ever again, but you never know in football. But I want to thank you all for the affection that you gave me.

“My heart has always been Giallorosso and regardless of where I’ll be, Roma will always be my city. Goodbye Roma, thanks from the bottom of my heart. Gonzalo.”

Villar clearly never mentions the Special One and, on paper, he will only return playing for the Giallorossi if Mourinho leaves the Stadio Olimpico.

The Portuguese coach has signed a three-year deal at Roma and has recently claimed that is not considering leaving the club before the expiration of his contract.

Roma currently sit sixth in the Serie A table, nine points behind fourth-placed Atalanta.
