Benevento President Oreste Vigorito underlined the seasonal target of salvation in Serie A but is ready to invest if the right players are available.
The Streghe are currently 15th in the table but the patron won’t get carried away, expecting a long path to survival in the top flight this term.
“It the season ended today, we would be safe,” Vigorito told OttoChannel. “It’s easy for everyone to fly fancy or get caught up in the enthusiasm.
“But I would like to remind you that we are facing opponents that, until recently, we only saw in the Panini sticker album.
“And, among other things, we are doing very well thanks to our coach too. A technician who is proving his worth. The path is still long, and we must never feel satisfied.”
Vigorito revealed he is ready to invest to help secure a place in the League but stressed he will not buy unless he can reinforce the starting line-up.
The patron also spoke about names like Simone Zaza and Arkadiusz Milik, who have been mentioned in links with Benevento.
“First of all, I say that we won’t sign a lot of players just to sign someone, there are evaluations to be made starting from December 23,” he added.
“I would add that [Gabriele] Moncini and [Nicolas] Viola have been absent for a long time and will be able to make a big contribution.
“I hear a lot about the attack, but [Gianluca] Lapadula doesn’t seem finished to mee. Last season he scored 14 goals in competitive games, plays for the national team and has already scored three with the Benevento shirt while maintain his average overall.
“Zaza is an old obsession of mine, I already followed him previously, but the operation didn’t materialise.
“For Milik, Napoli refused many important offers in the summer and I don’t think they will change the situation in January.
“In the squad there are many who can play as a first striker, including Caprari. With another striker, the coach should change formation and we absolutely want to respect his indications and ideas.
“We will see what the market will offer us, if we bring someone, it will not be an alternative. We will also pay attention to the younger players in the market.”
Because the President has a future planned for Benevento in Serie A.
“We have to save ourselves, that’s the seasonal target,” he said. “We are missing so much playing without fans, it’s something that penalises a team like ours.
“We have always enjoyed the support of our people. Having reached the target, it’s normal that we will try to raise the bar, with ambition and our feet on the ground at the same time.”
