Vieri, now working as a TV pundit, gave his old friend a vote of confidence despite unhappiness among players and fans about Miha’s dismissal.
“I’m happy for Cristian, he’s a wonderful man and an enthusiastic and prepared Coach,” Vieri told Gazzetta dello Sport.
“I’ve known him for 16 years now, he’s one of my greatest friends and the best I have in Italy. It’s impossible not to love him, he’s a decent, fair and loyal guy.
“Cristian is ready mentally for a big team, I’m sure of it. As a player, he breathed in the climate of the most prestigious and successful clubs in Italy for many years.
“These are things that count for a lot, which make the difference at least at the start.
“I have no doubt that he’s up to the job and will have a great career, regardless of how this adventure with the Rossoneri goes.
“Six matches are nothing to judge the value of a Coach. In a period this short you need miracles to get 100 per cent, and miracles have evidently only been made by Spalletti at Roma so far.
“The Coppa Italia is an extra motivation, being able to play for a trophy right away. Taking the Coppa home and making his mark immediately would be the icing on the cake.
“Of course, Juventus are the worst possible opponents, they’re an extraordinary team, technically solid and ever more concrete mentally. But in a big game there are many other factors that can come into play. Anything can happen.
“Brocchi did really well with the youth team of Milan. I often followed all his teams, he makes them play well.
“With Cristian you can’t not improve as a player. He understands the subject perfectly, he’s flexible, he loves beauty: the Milan Primavera team play the best football, they have a precise, recognisable and attacking identity.
“They’re not winning? Well, out of the choice the Rossoneri play with guys who are younger for the category and that will inevitably affect results, but a certain kind of work pays off in the future for the first team, which should be the only goal of various clubs.
“Another thing that has struck me while following Cristian is the love the guys have for him, it’s impossible for a man like that not to touch the heart.
“Inevitably it takes a bit of luck, but the Coach is at the top and the man even more so. I have no doubt.”
