Former striker Christian Vieri explained why things are not as dire as they may seem at Inter, implying one player in particular is letting the team down.

The Nerazzurri have struggled with inconsistency this season and disappointment in high in the Lombardy capital following the frustrating 2-1 loss to strugglers Spezia on Friday.

Inter did edge out a 1-0 win over Porto in the first leg of their Champions League Round of 16 clash and they’ll be desperate to book their spot in the quarter-finals with a positive result in the second leg.

Speaking on BoboTV, Vieri weighed in on Inter’s current position after their tough 2-1 loss to Spezia.

“Inter create 10 chances per game at home, they play well. You have Dumfries who crosses, Dimarco who crosses, you have Barella….

“You have players putting Lukaku in a good position. I’ll tell you one thing, if I played for this Inter team, I would win top scorer every year.”

It’s not been an easy season for Lukaku since his return from Chelsea on loan last summer. The Belgian striker missed large parts of the season through injury and has netted just three goals in 14 Serie A appearances under Simone Inzaghi.

  1. That is what happens when you play in England and get addicted to the fish and chip diet.
