Christian Vieri discussed Roma’s lack of consistency and noted that Nicolo Zaniolo ‘definitely needs to improve’.

The Giallorossi were held to a controversial 0-0 draw against Genoa on the weekend, with the 22-year-old Zaniolo receiving a straight red card in the dying minutes of the match due to dissent. The Italian forward was complaining about the decision to chalk off his late winner due to an accidental Tammy Abraham foul in the build-up.

Speaking on BoboTV, Vieri first touched on Roma’s disappointing goalless draw against Genoa.

“Roma’s problem has been consistency for so many years. It never returns for a long time.”

Vieri then moved onto discussing Zaniolo, who has become a hot talking point in recent days following his sending off. Italy Women coach Milena Bertolini sparked controversy after suggesting that the Italian forward ‘should be educated’, although she later clarified that she only meant in a sporting sense.

“He has to play with his teammates. They have to teach him. What I really like is that when he plays he always invents something.

“He definitely needs to improve because there’s plenty of room for improvement, also because after his two injuries this is his first real season as a starter for Roma.”

The 22-year-old Zaniolo has scored four goals and provided five assists in 27 appearances across all competitions this season under Jose Mourinho.
