Ex-striker Christian Vieri says Italy’s elimination from EURO 2024 is ‘everyone’s fault’ and insists the Azzurri must ‘always’ try to win major tournaments.
Vieri spoke about Italy’s disappointing Euro exit during an event organised by Lega Serie A.
“It’s everyone’s fault. I never like to blame someone specifically; it’s a group, so it’s everyone’s fault,” said the ex-striker.
“I expected much more, like everyone else. It was a bad European Championship, and there’s nothing wrong with saying it. We are Italy, and Italy do not just participate in Euros or World Cups. Italy must always try to win. This country goes crazy for football, so we can’t be happy with just being there; we must go and try to win,” continued the former Italian forward.
Vieri blames ‘everyone’ after Italy’s Euro elimination
“It’s everyone’s fault. Of course, the coach is the most blamed, but this is part of the job. We surely need to improve. The coach and the federation will know what to do.
“Sometimes, you struggle to do everything. I am sure the players gave their all. We didn’t play well, anyone. But I don’t think the players didn’t care about the national team. Sometimes, you just struggle with everything. It’s part of sports.”
