Genoa head coach Patrick Vieira is the latest name to be linked with a move to Roma to replace Claudio Ranieri in the Stadio Olimpico dugout for the 2025-26 season, as reports in Italy claim that there are currently six names under consideration for the Giallorossi job.
Ranieri is currently serving as Roma’s head coach on an interim basis until the end of the 2024-25 season, at which point he will move into a directorship role with his hometown team. The 73-year-old is involved in the hiring process and has recently claimed that the club are ‘very close’ to making a decision over their next head coach.
Vieira on Roma shortlist to replace Ranieri
According to reports from Sky Sport Italia, there are still several names under consideration, though.

Among them is Genoa head coach, Arsenal legend and former Inter and Juventus midfielder Vieira. The Frenchman replaced Alberto Gilardino as head coach of Genoa in November, and has overseen a period of steady progress at Marassi since then.
According to Thursday’s update, three other Italian coaches in Stefano Pioli, Maurizio Sarri and Vincenzo Montella are also among the candidates to take over at Roma for 2025-26.

Sky mention that Roberto Mancini and Massimiliano Allegri are still admired by those at the Olimpico, but they are both considered slightly less realistic options.
