Nemanja Vidic has retired from football after being released by Inter this month.

The defender struggled in his first season in Serie A, and has missed the whole of this season with a hip injury.

It was rumoured he could continue his career in MLS, but the Serbian has decided to call time on his playing career.

“The time has come for me to hang up my boots,” Vidic told the official website of his former club Manchester United.

“The injuries I have had in the last few years have taken their toll. I would like to thank all the players I have played with, all the managers and staff I have worked with, and say a big 'thank you' to the fans for their support over the years.”
